Console

ASIST/Console displays messages on a scrolling console as they arrive in a specified message queue. In a multi-system IBM i environment, ASIST/Console, in conjunction with ASIST/Message Director and ASIST/Network Harmonizer, can forward messages from remote IBM i’s to a message queue on a central system. If ASIST/Console is started over this central message queue you have a powerful and flexible way of centrally managing remote IBM i’s.

Auto-refresh.

Where interactive monitoring of messages is required, ASIST/Console can be set to auto-refresh (new messages arriving at the message queue are automatically added to a scrolling list display and an optional alarm sounds).

Auto-removal of unimportant messages.

Where interactive monitoring of messages is required, and particularly when auto-refresh is being used, ASIST/Message Console can be set to auto-remove unimportant messages (new messages arriving at the message queue are automatically removed). This can lead to a significant reduction in the number of messages cluttering the monitored message queue. Alternatively, ASIST/Message Console can be set to leave these messages in the message queue but not display them.

Navigation around a long list of messages.

Where large volumes of messages exist in any message queue, ASIST/Message Console provides useful features which allow movement around the list:

  • 'Position to' features enable you to go directly to a specific time frame in the main message list.
  • Special command key subsets all inquiry messages needing responses, eliminating the need to scroll through masses of messages to unanswered messages.
  • Message subset features message selection by a large range of search criteria. The selection choices for subsets include: sending system name, message ID, severity code, job name, user ID, message text, and/or message type.

Direct interactive access to OS/400, i5/OS and IBM i from the monitoring screen An OS/400, i5/OS and IBM i command line and user support features are all available through Function keys on the console (monitor) screen.
